Toyota Launching Third AI and Autonomous Vehicle Facility Near to U of Michigan Campus

(NH Voice) Toyota will launch it third artificial intelligence and autonomous vehicle research facility in the United States, in Ann Arbor, Michigan near the University of Michigan campus. The new Toyota Research Institute (TRI) base, which has been scheduled to be opened in June 2016, will focus on self-driving cars.
Toyota has partnered all its autonomous vehicle research centers with leading universities and the Japanese auto major has access to AI and robotics experts to develop technologies in the field of self-driving cars and artificial intelligence. The previous two facilities are tied up with Stanford University in Silicon Valley and MIT in Cambridge, Mass. The location selected for the third autonomous center lies in an area of western exurban Detroit. The Ann Arbor base will recruit approximately 50 employees and the automaker is planning to shift 15 of its employees from the Technical Center in nearby York Township to its third research unit.
