Roaches Inspire Design of Compressible Robot

(LiveScience) Robotic machines that mimic how roaches can skitter past obstacles and disappear under ledges in the blink of an eye are being designed and built by Robert Full, an integrative biologist at the University of California, Berkeley, and his team. Their efforts build off of millions of years of insect evolution.
Their Compressible Robot with Articulated Mechanisms (CRAM) will help first responders locate and rescue disaster victims trapped in debris.
