(EconomicTimes)  The humanoid robot “Sophia” was granted citizenship by Saudi Arabia–is the first robot to be granted citizenship in the world. The citizenship was bestowed on Sophia ahead of the Future Investment Initiative, held in the kingdom’s capital city of Riyadh. At the event, Sophia said she wanted to use her artificial intelligence to help humans ‘live a better life’, and that ‘I will do much [sic] best to make the world a better place’.
The robot was created by David Hanson, the founder of Hong Kong-based Hanson Robotics, who is known for creating robots that look and act like humans. She has cameras and AI software that allow her to ‘make eye contact’ and recognise people. She also has voice recognition capabilities and can become smarter by talking with people. Apparently, she was created to look like Audrey Hepburn.
