Israeli Researchers Develop ‘Robat’ that Uses Bat-Like Acoustic Approach to Navigate

(JPost) Israeli researchers have developed an autonomous “Robat” that uses a biological bat-like acoustic approach to navigate, emitting sounds and extracting information from the returning echoes to map its novel surroundings, thereby enabling it to negotiate obstacles and avoid dead ends.
“Robat” differs from previous studies as it moves autonomously through its test environments, whereas other bat-like robots are driven by users. The robot also maps the structure of the surrounding environment rather than mapping its own position in relation to the environment.
